Kevin Yackle, MD PhD      email

Kevin received his MD and PhD from Stanford in 2016. His PhD thesis was focused on using molecular biology and genetic tools to begin characterizing the role of neuromodulators and molecularly defined breathing pacemaker cell types in the control of breathing. He identified a neuropeptide signaling circuit that generates the "sigh" breath (1) and a direct link between the breathing pacemaker and the brain's arousal system which establishes a link between breathing and calmness / anxiety (2). He was a UCSF Sandler Faculty Fellow from 2016-2022 and is currently an Assistant Profressor in the Department of Physiology.
